Colorful Butterys

German: Butterplätzchen

  1. Organic butter from happy cows tastes great!

  2. Line baking sheet with baking paper
  3. Sieve the flour (if possible in a large bowl)
  4. Add chilled butter shavings to flour
  5. Add sugar and lemon zest
  6. Add egg yokes and immediately beat mixture to a smooth dough
  7. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

  8. Preheat the oven 350 F (325 F fan assisted)
  9. Flour the work surface
  10. Roll out dough thinly (1/5 inches)
  11. Cookie cutter alarm: cut, cut, cut and place all the heart-, tree- or star-shaped cookies on the baking sheet.

  12. Whisk milk and egg yokes and use as a topping for half your cookies
  13. Once the mixture is on, finish off with coarse sugar, chocolate flakes or colored (rainbow) sugar. Or decorate differently after baking (see below)
  14. Bake for 10-15 mins on middle shelf until golden brown
  15. Remove cookies on baking paper from baking sheet and allow cooling down.

  16. For a more colorful decoration, mix powdered sugar with lemon juice (1 table spoon per 3/4 cup powdered sugar)
  17. Add a drop of food coloring (recommendation: red) as a topping for the remaining cookies.
  18. Decorate the coated cookies as you like, e.g. make a second icing in a different color for stripes. Tastiest after 4 weeks in the cookie
